Vancouver Industry Feature - Liza Child Calligraphy and Design

One of the things I love most about my career as a Vancouver Event Planner is the variety of people I get to meet and work with on a weekly basis. In a new monthly blog series, I will be highlighting some of these talented people.

I've worked on a few projects with the Colombian born and raised Liza Child (pronounced Lisa).  I swoon over her dreamy colour pallets and textured papers. As a plus, Liza also has an event planning background, which only enriches the experience of working with her, because she really understands a wedding or an event in its entirety. What led you to start your own business? Being a business owner is a constant challenge, I have a lot of family inspiration from my mom opening her own fashion store, my dad having multiple businesses and my sister who owns a fine linen shop. I wanted to experience managing my own time and being my own creative director. I wanted to be an entrepreneur and manage my time and have the challenge of growing my business as a creative and artist. What is Liza Child’s signature aesthetic? I am constantly drawn to botanicals, muted hues, simple and understated elegance. I love combining classic and modern looks that make stationery minimal and beautiful. Can you tell me about what you do for your clients? I'm there as a guide, I know about paper, design, calligraphy, and events. I know how much details matter and I want to be there to guide couples, planners and entrepreneurs to make their vision a reality. Whether is a wedding, a logo or a special event I will be there to listen to their ideas and bring my expertise to show them what we can do in terms of paper goods or style their brand.Do you have a favourite colour palette of the moment:  I am drawn to pale/dusty pink, ivory/taupe and combo roses. Are you seeing or predicting any trends in Vancouver? Handmade paper has been a trend for a little while and more clients have been looking for that texture look and deckled edges and I am loving it!What’s your career highlight to date? Being an entrepreneur, for sure. I think having my own businesses is truly a highlight of my career. I have been thrilled, sad, excited, nervous, sorry. It has definitely been a challenge for me both as a business owner and a person.Lastly, can you list three fun facts about you?  I am dying to go on a "honeymoon" trip with my husband around Italy so we have been looking at flights and making an itinerary of our favourite places to visit, so I am pretty excited about it! We also just bought a home (still being built) but we have been designing the 3D model of the space and having fun creating mood boards and searching for inspiration of furniture for our future home. Finally, I am launching my shop soon which will include a line of stationery and home goods, so I am designing and testing our products before they go online!Website: lizachild.comInstagram: @lizachild
